I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this, but it’s simply not true. IF you begin at the beginning with your horse. If you start by putting the relationship first. The bond first. By giving the horse the opportunity to choose you. Not vice versa. That simple act makes all the difference. Allowing the horse to say I trust you to be in my herd and be my leader. Rather than forcing your leadership upon him.

We have eight horses. Three mustangs straight out of the wild, a rescued American Saddlebred, two Arabians, a paint and a quarter horse.  Every one comes  when called (most of the time :). Every one will walk with me wherever I would like to go without halter or lead rope. Every one began their journey with us by making the choice to trust us, to accept us as their leader, completely on their own. Most via Monty Roberts’ Join-Up method. A couple using our No-Agenda Time (Join-Up Without a Round Pen :). One via Dr. Robert Miller’s Foal Imprinting method. But the difference that was made in every case by allowing the horse to choose us cannot be overstated. It’s huge! Likewise the stress to the horse created at some level by not allowing him that choice, by forcing your will upon him, cannot be overstated.
