How do I cut an item to be 12 x 12 - each time I select a shape or pattern, it tells me that 12 x 12 is too large. I am also frustrated with creating borders. How can I cut a border 12 in. long ?Confused

Even though the mat 12 X 12, I believe the max is 11 1/2 X 11 1/2. The only way to make a long border is to weld several smaller ones together with the Gypsy.

have you tried using a 12 x 24 mat and you could do several boarders at one time just a thought it would be great for someone that plans ahead, unlike me !

On the Expression, use the Fit to Page button to cut an image as large as possible on a 12x12 mat.

For borders, try the Fit to Length button. The height will be increased to keep the image in proportion to the length you select, so choose images that are much longer than taller.

I have a long tall bulletin board at school that I cut a scalloped boarder for since the store bought one were way too tall. I welded them together using Design Studio then overlapped them to stretch the length I needed.

You'd have to cut on a 24" mat, though, as the biggest you can cut on a 12" mat is 11.5".

I always thought the easiest way to get a 1" border was to choose a design that had an edge you liked, use center point, then cut at 10". That would leave you with a 1" border all the way around. Does that make sense?
