Hi Everybody,

I just joined the cricut community because I am at my wit's end. I purchased the My Community cartridge because I thought it would make six piece jigsaw puzzles as I saw it on the back of the cartridge box. I was going to use the jigsaw puzzles as party favors but when I went to cut them, the cricut leaves a little space between each piece so it doesn't create an interlocking jigsaw without losing parts of the picture.

I have tried to line the cuts up so they interlock but that isn't working either.

Really I don't think it should be this hard!

What am I missing?

I haven't cut the puzzle pieces before, but I would say to make sure you have Real Dial Size off so the cuts are proportional.

Let me open Design Studio and see what they look like on the screen.

When I put the pieces on the mat without using Real Dial Size (the image on the left), they fit but when I used Real Dial Size (the image on the right), they weren't even close.

Hello,

I checked my real dial size and it said it was off.

I have a picture of my sample that I have attached.

It shows that the first row should be together but it's not and the second row comes after the first instead of being below it.

It should work without DS. Tomorrow I will try cutting it from the cart and from DS and see what happens.

I couldn't open your photo on my computer (I have some weird settings when it comes to pictures), but I'll grab my son's laptop tomorrow and see if I can see your photo.

What is happening is each puzzle piece is a separate cut.
When you cut the pieces out the machine moves over a little between each leaving a space.
When she is cutting on the picture she wants to piece together it leaves gaps and the whole picture does not piece back together right.

I know this doesn't help you with the My Community cartridge puzzle but the Locker Talk cartridge has a puzzle that cuts the pieces right next to each other. When you piece it back together the puzzle ends up being a square.

Hmm a new cartridge eh? I may have to look into that. It's funny though because when I was looking for puzzle pieces the My Community one comes so recommended.

OK, I thought she meant there was a gap where the pieces should connect. Flapper

She needs to cut the pieces in the order of the diagram in the handbook and move the blade to the new starting position (using the arrow keys around the Cut button) before each cut.

DS (or a gypsy or CCR someday) would make it much easier as she could lay them all out on the mat and put the picture in that same location on her cutting mat.

The more I read here, the more design studio seems to be a better idea. I am going to order one!

I suggest getting the Gypsy.... They will be phasing out the Design Studio.

PC is not phasing out Design Studio. They have said they will continue to update the cart library. There have been no program updates to DS (and there won't be program updates in the future) since the Gypsy was released.

Hi Sarah,

I'm not even sure if this is a good idea or not, but it is what I would do.

Are you wanting to make the puzzle out of a photo? I would cut the puzzle pieces out of cardstock first. Then place your photo to be used face down on your cutting mat. Glue the puzzle pieces on top and then cut them apart using a craft knife.

Or maybe this is a dumb idea? I don't know I'm still new at paper crafting, but it was the first idea that came to mind. =)
