Hi all. I am new to the Cricut Community. I just got my new Expression from DH for Xmas and was also lucky enough to get a Gypsy as well. I have never used either so this should be fun!
My question is, do I also need to buy the Design Studio too? What does it do????
Also do I need the jukebox as well?
Thanks in advance for all your help. You are some very talented Ladies!!!

Congrats on those great presents.

The Gypsy and Design Studio have many similarities.

They both allow you to manipulate objects on the carts. Eg, weld, copy, group, skew, rotate and flip. You can also hide some parts of objects so they don't cut using the Hide Contour feature in both.

The major differences are the screen size and how you use the carts.

With Design Studio(DS)you still need to insert the cartridges into the Cricut before you can cut your design.

You have to link your carts to the Gypsy before you can cut your design, however by doing that you don't need to insert them in the Cricut. You just connect your Gypsy to your cricut with the supplied cord and cut from there.

You definitely don't need a jukebox with the Gypsy. It can come in handy with DS if there are a lot of different carts in your design and you don't want to have to keep swapping them out, but definitely not a necessity. DS tells you when to swap the carts and you leave your Cricut ON when swapping.

If you are cutting directly from the Cricut (without DS) you should always turn your Cricut OFF when swapping carts.

ETA: You don't NEED to buy Design Studio, but if designing on the small Gypsy screen bothers you, you might find DS useful. I saw a post in the last week from someone who bought DS for $5 recently. I can't remember if it was from Walmart or Michaels.

Hi GirlfromOz
You sound like someone who knows.

I've just taken delivery of my new Imagine and have just ordered a Gypsy. I also have Design Studio which I use with my Create. Now I know that DS won't work with the Imagine, but that the Gypsy will. I also know that DS and Gypsy are forwards and backwards compatible.

My question is this: Could I design stuff on DS on my PC (normal sized monitor - easy to see), then download (or upload) onto the Gypsy (smaller screen - need my glasses)and thence to the Imagine.

Your thoughts would be really useful.

Welcome to the MB, ladies.

I'm posting a link to the Imagine forum. They may be more helpful with your Imagine questions. Of course, you're always welcome here.

Here's a link to some information on updating the Gypsy: http://myfaqcricutds.blogspot.c...updating-your-gypsy.html

Is there anything specific that is going wrong?
