I have a nephew that my sister-in-law and brother-in-law adopted. He has RAD, and I am trying to learn about it. I found lots online, but would like to talk with someone who has had a personal experience dealing with it.
Thanks
Joan

Hi Joan! I have a child with RAD. She was adopted at 2 years old, and she is now 8. We started specialized treatment this last 6 months. We always knew about RAD, and read every book, and went to every seminar, but when we adopted her, well, our insurance didn't pay for the therapy, and she was an hour away... but now the treatment is covered, and we don't care about the drive. :) Thank GOD! It is EXACTLY what we needed!
She changed schools this year, and is in a developmental stage, so it became very apperant she needed more than we were doing. These kids, parenting them is a 180 from parenting "regular" children. Disciplining them the "regualr" way makes them worse, not better. You can't "love them enough" because they are protecting themselves from real love. They are charming to strangers, or teachers, but never "invest". ANYWAY, please feel free to email me further... attach.org is good.
I can say with NO doubt, just any therapist won't do. They learn early what to say to the therapist, and they tend to lie. So finding specialize therapy from a RAD specialist is a MUST!!!

Email if you would like!! :)
Prayers your way! These kids take special parents. It is NOT easy!
