I got my sons prescription today for his contact lenses. He was asking me if he can have colored ones. Do I need to go back and get a whole new prescription, or just ask for colored ones when I go to buy them?

Your son will need to get another prescription for colored contact lenses, unless the type he wears is available in a colored version. A contact lens prescription includes brand, base curve, diameter, power and quantity, and only 2 contact lenses currently available in clear are also available in colored options. Call your son's eye doctor to find out for sure.

Thanks. I am going to get his regular or clear ones, and ask about the colored.

even if his current type is offered in colored i would still have them refitted...I got colors and they didn't feel like they fit the same and they always bothered me...most places have some to try that are non prescription...they usually have something printed on them so you can't wear them out, but they give you an idea of color and fit

thanks. I called and yes I have to take him back in. I will probably do that after the holidays to make sure he is comfortable with the clear ones. Thanks for all your help.

Depending on his age, you may want to consider daily disposables. My son (who is now 17) has had them for about 4 years now loves them. Boys can be sort of gross and dirty so I thought they would be a better choice for him. He also plays basketball, so if he loses one on the court it is not a big deal.

He is 13 and doing the 2 week disposables. the eye doctor recommended them for him. He also has a new pair of glasses, for when he doesn't want to wear the contacts.
