Dear Mr. Thornton:

Provo Craft has left their Apple Macintosh customers in the dark for way too long. Today, we have a choice. You should already be aware of a third-party software developer who is marketing software designed to allow Cricut owners to cut files that are not licensed by Provo-Craft.

Sure Cuts A Lot software has been developed for the Mac. I purchased the Gypsy because it would allow me to design and update my Cricut software using my Mac. As of 11-1-2010, Cricut Sync will replace Gypsy Sync. Cricut Sync is not available for Mac users.

According to Colby (excellent tech rep at Provo-Craft), the Mac version of Cricut Sync will be available by December at the latest. However, if you look on the Cricut message boards, you will find posts from Provo Craft Tech Support stating that Design Studio for Mac will be available soon. Those PC tech announcements are dated as early as January of 2008. Colby assured me that this wasn’t the case; however, I am concerned that Cricut Sync for Mac will be abandoned in a similar manner to Design Studio for Mac.

I prefer Cricut cartridges to .svg cuts. However, I am losing my patience with being treated like a second-class citizen because I prefer Mac to PC. We have a choice, and today I am considering just using Sure Cuts A Lot with my Mac.

Colby suggested that I purchase Mac Parallels or Boot Camp ($90.00) so that I could download the Windows updates. It is cheaper to buy Sure Cuts A Lot for Mac ($59.00) and wash Provo-Craft out of my hair. I will no longer need to purchase Cricut Cartridges.

If you do not treat your Mac customers as if their software needs are important –your competitors will. I am ready to jump ship.
