I love border punches - I own many of them and use them a lot. But sometimes I am frustrated because they don't fit neatly on the card that I am making.

I have used Design Studio to create many custom borders that act like punches. I was out of town for a wedding last week and had my gypsy on the plane so I made a new one using just the Gypsy cartridges.

There are endless possibilities with this technique. I tried to give complete directions for making your own but some people had trouble so I have posted the file on my blog. Here is a LINK to the correct post. I love having my edges turn out even!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry - I just realized the link wasn't working and fixed it

Beautiful card and I can't wait to check out your blog because I also love border punchesLaugh

Capadia, I noticed you took your Gypsy on a plane. Were there any problems with security or having it scanned? I've been wondering about this as I had a bad experience with a brand new sealed Cricut cart going through security. First they didn't know what it was and scanned my bag 3 times and when I got home the cart didn't work correctly. It made me not want to travel with my Cricut toys because I'm afraid of what it will do to the electronics.Sad

I have traveled with the Gypsy on the plane many times and have not had any problems. I actually was one of the "previewers" and took it to Italy with me before the HSN launch (when no one would have heard of it unless they were avid Cricut fans). I have never had anyone even ask about it and it has been through the machines at least a couple of dozen times.

The Gypsy on the plane is great - much simpler than taking out a laptop and I just work on types of designs where it doesn't matter that I can't use Design Studio. If you don't already have your stylus on a leash of some sort I would recommend connecting it - if you drop it on the plane it could be hard to find and retrieve it!

I think it is similar to a Game Boy (or whatever the kids are using these days) and would look like a toy on the screen. I know I have gotten some funny looks while I using it - like "aren't you a bit old for that?" LOL LOL LOL

I can't imagine what would have happened to your sealed cart - did it get close to magnets? Sometimes they can mess up electronics - but I don't really know the technical details about how that happens. If it was sealed maybe it was one that already had a problem - there seem to be several lately that have issues straight from the factory. Did you contact PC about replacing it?

Actually, I did call PC and they would have replaced it but I ended up calling my local M's and they said they would take it back since I had the receipt and it was defective. It was Winter Woodland and luckily the 2nd one worked fine. It might have been coincidence but I'm just so leary of those Xray machines. Funny thing is I kept explaining to them what it was and they still didn't really understand and even swabbed the package. I'm glad to hear you have travelled many times with your G with no problems as I really want to be able to do that.

Beautiful card, and what a great idea!!!!! Now, the wheels are spinning, although some days they don't spin very fast. :)

Also, I have taken my G on a plane with no problems.
