I recently purchased a Cricut Expressions 2 so that I can make Christmas Gifts using Vinyl. I'm having trouble finding the right setting for the blade. I have tried single setting for the blade, pressure and speed and it either cuts right through the vinyl and the backing or rips the letters off the vinyl. Then to top it off the backing to the vinyl gets stuck to the mat and I have to spend time getting the backing off the mat. I have ruined at least two packs of Vinyl. Mad I even bought a new blade. Should I be using the regular blade or a deep cutting blade? The vinyl I have is at least a year old . . . is it possible the vinyl is old and that's the reason the letters are tearing off?

With my E2, I use the 2-2-2 settings and have no problems at all. Try using these and see if that works. I have vinyl that is well over a year old and I don't think that is the problem. Do not use the deep cutting blade. So, see if the settings above work for you. Smile

A couple of suggestions I have for you.

1) Do tiny test cuts near the edge of the vinyl until you get the settings right (so you don't waste your precious vinyl). (Also note that different brands of vinyl may require different settings.)

2) To make your mat less sticky, press a clean t-shirt (or similar item) onto the mat over and over until it loses some of its stickiness.

Good luck to you! Once you can get the settings right, it is really fun working with vinyl!

Thank you very much for the tips. I will be attempting this again tonight when I get home. I have several "Cookies for Santa" plates and "Santa's Milk" Mugs to do.

Thanks again!!!

My first attempt at using my Cricut Expressions wasn't as easy as I'd hoped. The scrapbook paper I used stuck horribly. The paper shredded and I have no idea how to get the cut images off the mat with out ripping!! Help!!

When first using your mat yes its sticky which is a good thing it doesnt last..also its best to use cardstock when first starting with a new mat, or if you are going to use thin paper you can get some of the sticky off by either patting your hands over it, or using a clean tshirt to pat over it, not one that will leave fuzzies :) Do you have the Cricut spatula?
