Design studio was discontinued over a year ago and they don't update it any more. I suggest downloading the free CCR (Cricut Craft Room) and work with that. It is must easier than DS ever was.

Did you download the version from cricut.com or did you install from a cd? If you installed from the cd go to http://www.cricut.com/home/supp...esignstudio-reg-support/ and download the Program Update from there.

Your firewall might be blocking it too so if it's a separate program to your anti-virus program you might want to temporarily disable that too.

The new carts stopped being added to DS from April this year, but all the previous ones are there in the two Cartridge Update downloads at the above link.

Joyce, thank you I realize DS was discontinued but I do not like CCR. I prefer not to have someone decide for me on the size of my cuts and there doesn't seem to be a way around that without using DS.

Thank you Narelle, I did originally download from the CD but read online about it causing issues, I uninstalled, followed another post, and downloaded straight from cricut.com, also did all the updates. I have turned off all anti-virus through McAfee and anything else running. Still no luck. Still receiving the same error. Is it possible that this software needs to be placed on a desktop vs a laptop? I have a large wedding gift that I am working on and cannot use CCR to cut the tree with the limitations.. I spent an hour waiting for CS to pickup the activation line and never got an answer yesterday.

It really does sound like something is conflicting with DS when you're trying to activate. That generally is anti-virus. (Norton is a common culprit.)

Make sure your anti-virus is up to date.

Here's a list that I saved from cricut.com a long time ago of programs/devices that can block DS. The most common ones are cell phone and GPS software and sewing machine software.

If none of this helps you will need to contact PC customer service.

You can select any size you want using CCR. If you are cutting an image with layers, select the Relative size icon {under the keypad} and enter the size for your base image in the Default Height box. All the layers will be proportional to the size you enter.

If you want to cut in Real size, just select that icon.
