My husband purchased a case of these blocks a few years ago, and I would like to add my own touch to them. But, we are wondering if there is any easier way to cut a hole in them. He used a diamond drill bit, but it took several minutes to do so.

That's it. The only other option is to take it to a glass shop and have them drill the holes for you.
You really can't hurry cutting glass.

That's the only way I have heard others doing it.

THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TRUST ME I LOOKED INTO EVERYTHING BEFORE SPENDING 45.00 ON DRILL BIT. I EVEN CALLED AND ASKED HOW MUCH TO CUT A HOLE THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT FOR 10. AND IT WOULD BE 3 OR 4 DAYS. I BOUGHT THE DRILL BIT AND MY B-I-L DID IT FOR ME. IT KEEPED SLIPPING BEFORE HE COULD GET IT STARTED. SO HERES A HINT BEFORE YOU START PUT A PIECE OF DUCT TAPE WHERE YOU WANT THE HOLE. THE DRILL BIT DOESN'T SLIDE AND WILL HOLD THE BIT TO GET STARTED THEN YOU CAN TAKE OFF OR LEAVE IT TIL THE HOLE IS DONE DON'T FORGET WATER WATER AND WATER I WOULD HOLD THE HOSE WHILE HE DRILLED.Love

the only alternative that I am aware of is to use a battery operated light (like one of the little tea lights) on the inside of the block ... but, of course, that means you need to be able to reach inside it each time you want to turn it on.
