Is the cricut vinyl dishwasher safe ? If not what do you use on mugs or dishes that need washed?

I don't think it is. I have always handwashed everything that I made with soap and water and I usually tell people to do the same when I give them gifts with vinyl. Hope this helps.

I have heard some people run them through the dishwasher but I've never tried it myself.

I have run the cricut vinyl through my dishwasher multiple times adhered to a plastic coffee mug and haven't had a problem.

Perhaps washing it in the top rack might be better, just to be on the safer side.

It might depend on your dishwasher, or on the surface you have put the vinyl on. I tried vinyl on wineglasses, washed it on the top rack of the dishwasher, and ended up with blue and gold stars decorating the inside of my dishwasher:) Other people have posted that they have no trouble with vinyl in the dishwasher.

I've used Cricut brand vinyl on mugs, and washed them in the dishwasher on the top rack... even with the heat dry on, it has been fine since Christmas.

Check out hhsignsupply.com or craftvinyl.com There you will find outdoor vinyl. I think it's called GT5, it's been awhile since I ordered it. This is what I use for everything but walls. Holds up better than the indoor stuff. You can also buy HTV and use for t-shirts, koozies, etc.

I have only used permanent vinyl from HH even then I lost a couple of letters, but that was on plastic so I am sure your surface makes a difference.
