Yesterday ended with Our little Gadget man hurting himself. We are still not sure how he did it but he dislocated his left hip. He had to be put under so that they could put it back into place. He is now resting over night at the vets. He is so tiny it scares us because if this doesn't work he will need surgery to put a pin in his hip. We are praying for him to fully recover. He will have to have his leg taped up for 5 to 7 days and he will need us to do everything for him. We will be on 24 hour gadget watch... He has his play pen for the dining room/living room during the day and I am making hi a bed in a big tote for at night for beside my side of the bed. That way he will be comfortable and confined but I won't have to move his bed every morning and every night. He is only 3 1/2 pounds so this is a very serious issue for him. Their hip joints aren't that big and most of the time they have to put a pin in the hip to hold it into place and that means surgery.

Yesterday I took Gadget back to the vet to get his leg re taped. The Vet decided not to tape it again and told me to keep him confined through the night and give him some walking time on it today. Well we came home I put him in his play pen and he slept for about 4 hours. then Amanda fed him and took hiom potty as she set him on the ground he took a step and re dislocated his hip. So I called the vet and they said there was nothing we could do for him until this morning since he had just ate dinner. So the poor little guy went all night again last night in major pain..... he did seem to settle better than the first time. Mark called the specialist dr that he knows and made an appointment with him for this morning. We went and talked to him and he said there was 2 options. to put it back in like the first time but keep him taped up for at least 10 days and the other one was surgery to remove the hip ball that goes into the joint. after a long time talking it through with the specialist we opted for trying to put it back in again. So he is now back at the vet resting after gettting his hip relocated again. he will most likely have to stay there for a couple days. I am suppose to call in the morning and talk tot he doctor.

I am really hoping that this works. we will have to keep him taped up for the 10 days and keep him confined. and then after he is out fo the tape he will have to be confined for up to 6 weeks with rehab going on.... and if we end up having to do the surgery then it will be months of recovery.....

poor little guy... I feel so bad for him.....

We have 3 dogs, our newest is a chihuahua/min-pIn.
All 3 are very special to us, each with their own personality!

Please add my prayers to the list! I love my dog (and all the ones before him). They are family members and their issues are just as important as any family member.

3 and a half pounds - wow, that's a little guy!

Keep us posted.

Poor little guy, I am so sorry. When our pets get hurt it is so hard on us because they can't tell us everything they are feeling. My Baby is 85 lbs but she is still my Baby LOL

I am sending my prayers to your Little Gadget Man and hope he has a speedy recovery.

Sending Puppy Hugs to Gadget

Prayers for your special Little Man.

Our furbabies mean so much to us. This board kept me going this spring when we lost our Princess.

Thank you every body

We got him home this afternoon and his tape they taped his leg with started falling off so we had to take him back to the doctor and get another xray and the leg taped again..... So far so good

If I have to hold this guy for the next 5 days I will. morning noon and night..... I gotta tell you he might be 3 1/2 pounds but after holding him for a few hours the arm gets tired..... will have to go cuddle up in the recliner with a big fluffy pillow on my lap for him.

We went shopping this afternoon and left him home with the daughter and when we got back all he wanted was his mommy so i put groceries away one handed....

Awww! Poor Gadget and poor you! It's so hard to see our furkids in pain. One of my little maltese girls has knee trouble now and again. I worry that one day she'll have to have surgery.....I feel your pain!

See if you can make something like these out of a pillow case, sheet, table cloth or towel. This will keep your little guy with you and help with holding him.

Thank you....BJR, swatts66, and Calmom

Calmom, I have a front pack for him that looks like a little box with a mesh front. So far he is doing good with either being on my lap or in his play pen or tote bed. I actually pulled out another tote and put it in the craft room so that I could still work on my projects. For the most part I have only had to hold him when he eats. and he is now drinking while standing on three legs. He won't use his potty pad during the day so I just took him out and let him go outside. he is such a persistent little dude he knows what he wants and he will not stop bugging you until he gets what he wants....

Crying Aww, poor little guy!! I hope he feels better soon and that with some tlc your little scrap will be in the pink. I'll definitely keep your little guy in my thoughts.. and you too because I know that this is heartbreaking for you.

My husband's aunt had to put her dog down this morning. She is devastated but knew it was best for him. What makes it even harder is that her husband (my husband's uncle) is in hospital near death.Sad
