I have a question on cutting simple cards.....is there a way to just cut half the card, only cut the part with the cut out design? I want to have that section and layer it on top of print, then card......I know I can cut the whole card then physically cut it in half but that's a waste of paper...can you manipulate it on the screen to just cut the front of the card? I think I am a little spoiled with the eraser on a different machine....

I can think of an unorthodox way to do it....maybe someone else can come up with a better idea.

See the illustration below? I used one of the blank cards for the image on the right of the main image with the cutouts on the card.

I brought them both up on the mat for a reason. I would get the handles/box around the blank card on the right and use the bottom middle arrow to resize the blank card into the half of the card you want to cut out on the left.

When you get it to the size you want, EDIT the left card and hit the red outline on that card, which will eliminate everything on the left card except the cutouts.

Now, move the resized blank card over onto the half card you want to cut out. I would also GROUP the two layers or weld them.

I believe if they are on the same mat layer, the half card will now cut and the cutouts will also cut. I might be wrong. I don't have time to try it right now, but if you try it, please let us know the outcome. Oh, you will have a little notch in the middle on both sides of the newly configured card. You might be able to further hide them with a frame around everything else if it looked presentable that way.

I would try a very small one.....maybe a 2" card to see if it works! LOL.

Hope it works.

Char

The hide feature won't work on the cards she talking about. There's a continuous line all around the card, so she would be getting rid of much more than she wants.

This was easy but there are the little notches on each side. All I did was resized it smaller.

I may not be understanding this post, but can't you just move the part you don't want off of the mat? It won't cut then.

Not in CCR. If part of the image is outside the cutting area, none of the image will cut. Both DS and a gypsy will cut what is inside the cutting area and omit what is outside.

Simple Carts is listed as one of my linked carts, so if I update my Gypsy, I should be able to use it. I know I have Easter 2010 in there from my last update.....and I don't have that cart. I'm going to try to update it this weekend. Let's hope it works! I think the ones that we don't get access to are the individual cuts....like all of the mother's & father's day cards.

That's what I thought too, but when I did the update C Sync told me I was already updated and Simple Cards still did not show up in my Gypsy.

Hmmmm, that's strange. I've been able to use the other freebies, and I was really looking forward to using this one. I hope that's not another sign about the Gypsy. I would really miss it!Sad

I just made the cut as I suggested above....it worked great. I used my MINI and CCR. The notch was negligible....however, I did only do about a 1-3/4" cut. I did the one with the heart and it's really cute.

Can't wait to play with this freebie.....and I hope you don't mind, GrammyCris, but would it be okay with you if I use your idea? It's a good one!

When I resized the "blank" card over the cutout portion of the first card, I did let it overlap the cutout portions on the first card. IT CUT OUT PERFECTLY. I did WELD and GROUP. Hope it works for you! Sorry, but I'm not taking time to take pic of the CUT right now...if you want me to later, I can. I'm going to be leaving the house in a few minutes.

Char

When I get home tonight I will have to give that a try.....I love the idea of just having the front cut out instead of whole card....glad you liked the idea!

What an awesome idea GrammyCris, using the Simple Cards as Toppers. Thank you and Char for all the information on how to achieve this.

After reading all the posts, here's what I did: I placed a blank card on the screen size 3 x 3; then added one of the 'Best Wishes' cards; Selected the 'edit/group' feature & hid the 'red line'; as Char stated, you are left with the card features only; I then moved the features onto the 3 x 3 card, grouped them together and printed the topper out. It printed out great. Can't wait to do a few more.

Just so you know, I've made quite a few of these cards already, there are so many cards I like on this cartridge but found I was using a lot of paper; creating toppers is a great short-cut to creat a 'simple card'.

Best, Mary R.

I just figured out a very simple way....Char's idea took me there...I figured out what size topper I wanted (4X5.25) so I made my card 8X5.25, did a copy/paste of it so I had two cards on the screen.

Then I rotated one of them so it was upside down (don't flip or your text will be mirrored)

Then I placed one on top of the other and leave it on weld.

Cut!

It didn't even cut the notch marks, then I just cut the two in half and had two toppers!

(and if this is exactly what Char was saying and I didn't understand, I apologize!)

Ohhh Grammy Chris,

I like this idea. Laugh That's why I come here. Some very creative people hang around this MB and I like "scrap lifting" all the great hints and tips. Wish I could think of some to share. Flapper but some of us are creative and some of us copiers. Guess there is a place for all of us here.

I'm not sure what I said! LOL.

But, I thought you didn't want to use scissors and that's why I did it the way I did it. BUT, it is amazing how many different ways you can figure out to do something and get the exact result you want.

Great thinking!

Char
