Hi Dori, Nice to meet you and your little doggies.

When I was young I had servere Brochities (sp) I was sick more then I was well. Home more then in school.

When I was 12 yrs. old my parents met a women that raised chichuahua's and told them if they got me one that I would be as sick anymore!!!

Well my parents bought one right away. I named her Tangee all tannish brown and whether it was me taking care of her but my sickness was gone. I no longer suffered from broch. if I got a cold it wasn't as bad usually would last 3 weeks but only 1 week.

Then my Tangee had pups and we kept one female and she was black and white and I named her Cha Cha. Now my little ones died at 18 and 16 yrs. old

My mom would cook for them steak, eggs and home made chicken soup. They never had shots other then rabies. I loved them they were such a big part of my life.

It amazes me because I never had a dog last that long. I truly believe that the Vet. shots that they get now a days is ruining these animals.

So welcome again hope you come back to chat

JeanneLee... Who is getting old!!!!!!!!

When I saw the Orthopedic Doctor he said to stay away from knee braces!!! because not all knees are the same and I was probably causing more harm then good.

I listened to the Chiropractor who told me to wear it when I am bowling.

The specialist said not all knees are the same and there fore I was probably causing more problems by wearing one.

So exercise is the key losing weight also. For every 10 pounds of weight you lose 6 pounds of pressure off the knee.

Have a good day/night all

My BEST news of the day...Joel our UNITED STATES MARINE called us this afternoon! They were on their first liberty and got to call home! It was wonderful to hear his voice after 12 weeks!
He is so excited to see us and we him!

Trying to get laundry done...we are leaving about 5am on Tuesday morning for SC.

Hi everyone;
Hope everyone had a nice w/end. Ours was relatively uneventful. Took Troy back to his house early this afternoon as they were going to the Edmonton Oil Kings hockey game. Of course, we get a call "could he buy a jersey?"BigGrin! He was buying it with his own money, so what could we say but yes. Better then me having to buy it, LOL! The silly things are over $100.00. Decided to use my airmiles and order a Keurig coffee machine.

Dori: nice to meet you. I live in Alberta, Canada with my dh of 38 years. We have 3 grown children; 2 girls; 35 & 30, both married and a ds, 32 who lives in a group home as he has Down' Syndrome. We currently have 2 cats that had been abandoned and a fish pond of fish. I've tried almost every craft thats come along, but my favorites now are scrapbooking and cardmaking. Look forward to getting to know you better. Jump in whenever, we are a friendly group here.

Joy: glad you are enjoying your cruise.

JeanneLee: what a nice surprise getting a call from your ds. Have a nice visit with him.

Nancy: Troy is getting a brace made for his knee to wear when he plays floor hockey. I think it all depends on the injury to the knee.

Sonya: hope ds's basketball tournament went well.

I guess it's back to work tomorrow, skating again in the a.m.
Take care everyoneBigGrin

Well things are still going well with my new student. Yes I do still miss my little kindergarten kiddos. But I am putting my full heart into this new situation.

I can't remember if I posted this on thursday after school, don't think I did. But he had a meltdown in the afternoon. He threw himself on the floor crying, kicking at everything around him including his desk (so everything in his desk went flying). Ripped up 2 of his own bookmarks (that he had previously told me his Nana gave him). So what I did was sit on his chair & wrestled him onto my lap. Just held him tight telling him it was going to be okay, he needed to calm down & I was here to help him. I did manage to calm him down! Then he was sitting there on my lap, looking down at his ripped bookmarks sadly. So I saw that & commented would he like me to try to fix them for him as I know he didn't really mean to do that. He said "yes, that was my fault". Aaaaw. I felt so bad for him, trapped in his body in this crazy world.

So told him I would fix them for him, if he could try to manage a short test for me (that the teacher was giving out). He managed to pull himself together, take the test, so taped the bookmark together for him. Then the rest of the day (about 1 1/2 hrs left in the day) he turned himself around & was super good!

Teacher told me the next day that he has never come back from having a meltdown like that, so was proud of myself! I think he knew I was on his side & cared about him. I really was talking to him very nice, stroking his hair, calming him down.

Friday he was fine & worked well all day, no problems!

I am going to ask the teacher if it is okay if I do a sticker chart for him this week. That if he is good for a day he gets a star sticker on his chart. If he gets all 5 stars for this week he gets a small prize from me at the end of the week. He loves monster trucks, so found a monster truck coloring book for him! How cool is that?!

If I tell him what the prize is on monday (after I okay it with the teacher), I think that he will work really well for that. He seems to like working for a reward.

I will tell him also I am not going to do this every week, but just want to see if he can work hard for me & behave well.

I do get really into my job, with whomever I am working with! Still loving my job, even though I miss my other position!

Anyone know if the $99 expression bundle is still in stock? I posted it on facebook & thought it was, but someone said it was sold out already??

Hey Sharon- I just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth about your student. First I think it wonderful that you're willing to give a good try with your new student. Consistency is key. A few things about the sticker rewards: First, the teacher should have a reward system in place for all the students. If she doesn't, then suggest one. If you make a sticker chart for just him, 2 things will happen- it will bring attention to the fact that he is different and it will make the other students resent him that he is getting something that they are not. So let's say you do the sticker reward system- make it a small goal, like a sticker if he follows all the rules in the morning then another sticker for the afternoon. Be specific of what the rules you want him to follow, maybe tape it to the desk so it's a visual reminder. Then after some time stretch out the time when he gets a sticker. Maybe he has to follow the rules for the whole day then get a sticker. Also, you can't tell him you won't do it every week, this isn't consistent. It has to be everyday, all school year. Maybe the prize at the end of the week could be a small thing. Once again it has to be for the whole class.

I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds, but the way you explained your idea it seemed you would be making it more obvious that he is different and that he'll get special treatment. Special needs kids want nothing more than to be "normal"

One last thing- I would make sure you know the district policy on restraining a child. Personally, if I found out my child was being restrained no matter how bad the temper tantrum, I'd be a little concerend how tight you are holding him. It might be exactly what he needs. I don't know.

Anyway, I hope I didn't upset you with my comments, I'm just looking out for your best interest.

Sandra... the braces I had bought over the counter in a drug store one size fits all.

So I am sure having one made to your size knee will do the trick

Ever since I made the appt. for the Orthopedic Dr. 3 weeks ago my knee is fine. Personally I think it was the weather it always affects the arthities

My Abigail is coming soon

DH wants me to make a pot of fresh pea soup. So he went to the store to buy ham comes home with 5.5 pounds. Holy cow I asked for 1/2 pound of ham ..;. guess what we ate for dinner last night!! LOL

I kept a small chunck for the soup and I froze the rest for another 4 or 5 meals plus lunch sandwiches

Have a great day/night

Hi everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend. We got 12 inches of snow at our house yesterday!! It has been so awful the last couple weeks. We had an inversion that was awful. We had the worst air in the country they said. Then Friday and saturday we had a lot of fog. But the storm came through and cleared it all out. Its so nice to see the sunshine and the blue sky today! Suppose to snow again tonight, but that's okay. It will help keep the gunk away as long as storms keep coming in.

DORI - Nice to meet you! Welcome to the group! Glad I found it. I am from Utah. Been married for 31 years. Have 5 kids, 4 daughters and a son. Three daughters are married. Son is at home still, in college. Have 1 GS, 20 months old and 2 more babies due this summer! I love crafting, especially machine embroidery, card making, and painting.

JOY - Hope you are enjoying your cruise!

SHARON - Glad things are going well with your student. Sounds like you are a good fit for him!

JEANNE - So happy for you getting to see your son finally! Congratulations to him on graduating. That training is tough!!

NANCY - Enjoy your nicely organized craftroom! So much more relaxing to work in a nice environment. Enjoy Abigail today!

Have a great day everyone!

Just wanted to let you know first of all that when I say I restrained him I was not squeezing him super hard, more like hugging him! The school does definitely use restraining for children though as we have had to do it with the autistic children in their class & there is actually a restraining workshop (which I should actually e-mail me supervisor & see if I can go to!) coming up.

I basically did it as I didn't want him to hurt himself or the kids around him, as he was kicking his legs around so wildly & trying to push the desk over onto himself (as he was under it).

They definitely do have a reward system in place for the whole class. They have fish, one for each student, that start off on 'Ready to Learn' then get moved up or down according to their behavior. If it is all the way at the bottom that is parent contact, step up from there is consequence (they miss recess), if they get all the way to the top, they choose a small prize from the prize box (that the teacher provides).

My student made it to the top today, so got a prize & was so excited!

I do feel he might need some long term reinforcer though, so wrote an e-mail to both my supervisor (who is also the school psychologist) & the lead teacher for the classroom. Letting them know what I was thinking of doing.

My supervisor thinks it is a great idea, as he said short term reinforcers mixed with long term reinforcers are good tu use. He suggested using smaller items like sticker sometimes or food or other rewards like activities.

I wouldn't do this sticker reward chart for all the class though. For one I could not afford it & secondly they do not need that reinforcement. Majority of them are really well behaved every day.

He already is singled out in a way as he has me for a one-on-one aide & the other kids see me. I sit next to his desk in a special chair. I have a notebook to note any good or bad behaviors in (that they sometimes see me writing in). They see when he has meltdowns in the classroom. So they already know he needs a bit more help.

However they also see when he is being good & comment that he is doing really well & behaving so nicely today etc!

It would be something between me & this student. I would mention it to him, to the side, so not all the other students are involved in the discussion. I would not want to make them jealous at all & I think he will love having the extra perks.

I do agree that I think it has to be consistent though. I wasn't planning to do it every week, but my supervisor also felt that he needs consistency.

Need to okay this all with his parents first though too, my supervisor said. I don't see a problem with them, but of course we need to make sure they are fine with it.

I give him lots of positive reinforcement throughout the day too with high fives & thumbs up to him.

I really appreciate the feedback though & do see where you are coming from!

Jeanne that's so great you're going to see your son soon.

Nancy I'm still working on organizing my craft room. I think my main problem is that I let the kids come up here with thier toys. It's really hard to organize for a 14, 12, 6 and baby. Layla dosen't really like being in her pack and play so much anymore so I'm constently chasing her around up here.

Great your getting your done.

Debbie so sorry you missed the fireworks.

Sonya so has the crowd thinned out at the gym yet?

Today I'm making Valentines Day stuff, I'm having a little party with our freinds and thier kids. Kind of American style. We're all making Valentines for each kid coming and I'll have games and crafts. They don't do it in school here so I'm doing it at my house.

Also, I have a potential opportunity to sell my stuff at a kids place that does parties. So I need to work on that also. SO much to do, I should get off the computer.

Bye for now.

Here is a little baby and big boy candy. The weather here has been so weird, so one day it was warm and we went to the park. This is Adam my 12 year old and baby Layla my 10 1/2 month old.

I don't really have a great picture of all 4 of my kids. I'll add that tot he list of things to do.

We are getting more snow right now. Probably have about 3 more inches. It's just lightly snowing so probably won't get too much. Tired of the snow!! But I hate the inversions we get, so at least these storms keep that away. We live on the bench, so get more snow than most of the area.

ANGIE - Your daughter is so cute!! Handsome son too! Good luck with your party, sounds like fun. I hope it works out for you with your items for sale! That would be exciting.

I have a long list of things I want to make down in my craft room, just need the motivation to get down there and do it! Anyone have some to give me? LOL.

Well, just to mess things around for me & my student a little bit more, he is moving to another town soon. Just means more disruption for him (and as Angie said, consistency is so important) & means I will be moved elsewhere I think too. Sigh.

Been keeping up exercising lately, so proud of myself. The pounds are coming off still, very slowly, but still coming off.

Have a full day crop that I am vending at & cropping at on saturday. Have to figure out what I need to take with me as I have no idea what I am working on!

Also have my Open House for CTMH the following saturday & need to plan a make & take project for that, do display boards (maybe I will do both those things on saturday?!) & figure out food too!

Angie.. Layla is growing so fast she is a cutie I thought she would keep her dark hair. Abigail is dark brown don't know where that came from!!

I hope it works out for you at the party store, nice opportunity for you.

Sharon.. sorry to hear they are moving and you willhave another new student.

shelly.. hope you didn't get too much snow

We are having crazy weather here on L.I. yesterday it was 60 deg. today 53 now high winds now thru tomorrow morning 60 miles an hour!!

I have been having company everyday this week friends coming over to see Ms. Abigail bringing chrismtas presents.

Abigail was so excited tearing the paper and everyone's thinking how cute it this she can't wait to see what the present is!! no she is tearing the paper to eat it!!! sure enough right in her mouth

She received such cute toys luckly she doesn't have.

So I have been busy today was bowling and bowled so bad but I was a little nervous because I had a eye doctor appt. having problems seeing out of my glasses. Just got new glasses 10 months. ago.

He said my cataracts grew way too fast I am too young for this LOL

But I use to use Nasonix which was to avoid sinus headaches and stuffy noses and it said it causes catarcts with continues use!! well if I knew that I wouldn't have been using it all the time!!

So now I need them removed and they also want to put lenses in the eyes.. got to think about that

Well hoping everyone has a good evening/day

Hi everyone;
It's been a busy few days around here. Monday evening we had a planning meeting with Troy's vocational & home staff. All went well, we all came up with some things to work on with him over the next year. It's great when all the staff involved with him can be present and get everyone on the same page. Last nite we had a hockey game. It has turned terribly cold here...today we had a balmy high of -22 with the windchill -30C.

Sharon: sorry to hear about your little guy moving, I sure don't understand parents sometimes. How soon is he moving? Sounds like you were just getting things going for him. I'm off to a crop this Sat., also, have fun at yours.

Angie: TFS your pic., the kids are so cute. Good luck with your party and your potential sales.

Shelly: cold here and a bit of snow today.

Nancy: too cute about Abby & the wrapping paper. My great niece is the same, though she is past the putting it in her mouth stage. At Christmas she did realize that there was something in the parcel. Can't believe she is 18 mon. old already! Mom had cataract surgery 6-7 years ago with no problems at all. My optomotrist says he sees a small one on one of my eyes but not concerned about it yet.

Laura: sorry you've been having problems getting on. Hope things are better now.

Got an e-mail today saying my Keurig machine is on it's way. Now I'm getting excited to have one.

Bye for now, take care everyone

Ooh Sandra, you will LOVE having a Keurig! I love mine & can't imagine not having it now! lol

Yeah poor little kid is moving I think this weekend. His last day of school is tomorrow. He knows he is moving, but doesn't seem to know he is going to a new school & not really our place to tell him. :( He has been so sweet I even bought some monster truck stuff for him to use for prizes & now he is moving. So going to take them in tomorrow & see if the teacher thinks I can give him at least the monster truck book maybe as a 'way to go for doing well this week'?

I can't give it to him & say I will miss him to here is a little goodbye gift, as he doesn't know he isn't coming back to the school. So maybe just give it to him as a prize for this week? I will ask the teacher & see if that is okay. Also had monster truck stickers, will give those to the teacher to use for her daily prize box, as I sure don't need monster truck stickers for my 2 girls. LOL

But found out some great news & not so good news today!

The great news is that I am moving back to my kindergarten classroom as of monday!! Yay!!

But sad & bad news is that the lady that switched with me, is being let go! She was called into the office yesterday & the supervisor told her her last day is Feb 19th! As we don't have a contract or are part of a union, there isn't much she can say or do. But man, if that was me I would be pissed & sure wouldn't be coming in the next day! I would just walk out then & there! lol

Still didn't get anything packed up for the crop, guess it will be last minute on saturday morning as I am out with the family after work tomorrow!

Hi everyone;
Today was a PD Day (work for us, but no school for the kids). The session we attended this a.m. was ok, but I think I would rather have been working with the kids. Then we had a staff meeting this afternoon. The only nice thing about these days is all of us EAs can go for lunch together. At least it's turned warmer here now and is supposed to get even warmer for the w/endBigGrin

Sharon: sorry to hear your little guy is moving so quickly. Could this have been in the works for a bit? We as EAs here have our own union and we also sign contracts from year to year. Hope the other gal has somewhere else to go or is able to find another job quickly. Glad you are able to go back to your kindergarten class. I picked up the pics I'm want to scrap on Sat. this afternoon, now to get some papers together.

Quiet nite here on the board and at our house. I'm going to watch the hockey game later, have to finish a few things on the puter first. I've been knitting squares for Michael's Blanket Canada program. After I finish the one I'm on, I'm going to try to make an Infinity scarf. Found a pattern online and have plenty of wool. Not sure how I'll do though as it is knit on circular needles and I've never used them before, though I have a couple sets of themBlushing. Am trying to use up as much of my wool as I can, thus knitting the squares, a good past time while watching the hockey games instead of eatingLOL.

Better run, bye for now.

It is either quiet all week long and this week company everyday!!

Tomorrow my craft friend is coming over in the am. Hoping to get Abigail down for a nap so we can play a little if she doesn't go down for a nap then she will watch us do a little crafting. I won't fret about it because she is good by herself and even when I have company.

The winds here are terrible had me up at 4am this morning howling and raining heavy at times.

I was worried about Dd coming over with the baby and luckly the sun came out there was a triple rainbow unbeliveable site to see.

DD said the rain and just stopped when she was driving over but the winds were still heavy.

I see everyone must be busy quiet night here

Sandra.. have fun with the circleular needles never used those before should be fun and if it stops you from eating even better.. enjoy LOL

Sharon.. you poor thing hopefully you will still have a job to go to.. enjoy your kindergarten class

Well have a good night all/day

Hi everyone,

SHARON - Hope things work out well for you going back to the other kids. Sorry about the other lady getting laid off. I hope things will work out for that little boy in his new school. Lots of changes for you lately.

SANDRA - I bet you can get the hang of the circular needles. You will have to show us a picture when you finish your project. My mom was a knitter and made some gorgeous sweaters. I learned, but would rather crochet.

NANCY - I hope Abigail cooperates and lets you get some crafting done!

One of my daughters that is expecting had her ultrasound and we found out it is a girl. She has a boy, so now she'll have one of each. Have to wait another month before we find out what my other daughter is having.

My daughter got a phone call yesterday afternoon from the doctor saying the radiologist had looked at the ultrasound and there may be a problem with a cyst in the brain. She went in for blood tests today and will have another ultrasound in two weeks to look at it. they say when this is found, most of the time it goes away by the next ultrasound and there are no problems. So she is really worried and we are all praying for her. she was really upset after the phone call. But, she went in today for the blood work they wanted and was able to talk more with the doctor and understands a little better of what is going on. We will know if the blood work shows anything next Wednesday and then the ultrasound in two weeks. So a few weeks of worry before we will know anything for sure. So praying and crossing our fingers that things will go well.

Happy Friday Everyboddyyyy!
I got a bunch of embellishments in the mail this week Love They are wonderful! The while mess of them cost about $10! I found if you are looking for tiny pearls or gemstones, you can find them cheap under nail art. Not only are they tiny and cute, they weigh very little as they were meant to be worn on your nails.
Shelly What a terrifying phone call to receive! Definitely praying for a healthy baby!
Nancy I love company! But don't get much. I think a week of having a rotating door of people might drive me crazy!
Sandra Unfortunately too many PD days would be better spent with the students. It is a shame to interrupt education for lackluster or barely useful presentations for staff.
Sharon Poor little student of yours. I hate seeing them shuffled around like that. Good to hear you'll be back in "your" classroom. At my school we will be losing two aides to maternity leave in about a month. Neither has officially told the school. Me thinks, they should get on it! I have been asked to make weeding invites and response cards. The bride likes the look of stamped cards. Is there a stamp set from CTMH that is florally or swirly that might be suitable? (I just won $25 dollars of product from CTMH!)
Talk to you all soon
Take care
Laura

Hi everyone;
Home from another ho-hum hockey game. Our team hasn't been doing well at all since Christmas...alot of our veteran players are injured so we've got affiliate players filling in for themBored. Hopefully, things turn around soon and they're all back for the playoffs. Glad this week is finally done...it has been a long week for some reason. Off to scrapbooking for the day tomorrow, then another game tomorrow night. Fingers-crossed we have a better outcome.

Laura: your embellishments look great! I've got so many I'm sure I'll never use half of themLOL. Funny about your 2 aides...isn't obvious they are expecting? Could you not go on the CTMH website to check out the stamps?

Shelly: hope everything turns out ok for your dd and the baby is fine. fingers and toes crossed for everyone. I usually prefer crocheting also, but every so often I like to bring out the knitting needles.

Nancy: hope your crafting day went well. Hope you were able to get a pic of the rainbow.

Well, better run and get the rest of my stuff packed up.

Bye for now, take care everyone.

Laura those embellishments look like fun hope you get to use them I think they will last you years

This happened to be a crazy week for company every other day someone was here.

No crafting for me on Friday Abigail decidedshe wanted 150% of my attention. Her gums were bothering her and she just wanted grandma's attention.

My crafty friend Linda understood because she has been babysitting her 2 grandchildren since they were born and now they are 9 and 6. So she enjoyed playing with Abby but we managed to talk about different card tenchniques and challage ourselves to do something different in stamping. So I will play this weekend.

next Sat. we are getting together to play (no babies) LOL

Sandra... wow you sure must enjoy Hockey...

Enjoy your scrapooking day on Sunday

How is everyone Christmas Card challange going????????????

I managed to make some different style cards over the weekend

Oh I also have been having a hard time signing in anyone else!!!

Hello everyone!
A busy day for me. I designed 2 wedding invitations. I sent pictures to the couple and hopefully will hear back from them soon so I can get started. Tomorrow I will work on the insides. I am thinking maybe some cuttlebugging is in order!
I know it looks like a lot of embellishments, but I can use them at school and with my Girl Guides. I'm embarrassed to say - there are MORE on the way. Some black ones and some sunflowers.
Nancy I do not miss teething babies! It can be so hard to be patient with them.
Sandra It is very obvious that the aides are expecting, but they haven't put their notices in yet. I keep reminding them they need to do that so that I can advertise the positions.

Evening everyone;
Back from the rink again. The boys did a bit better tonite...at least a tie!

Nancy: sorry little miss didn't let you get much crafting done, those darn teeth anyway! Hopefully, next Sat. will be better for you. My scrapping day was today, came home early for the game. We went out for a quick supper before the game. We have season tickets for this team, that's why we go so often. Had fun at the crop...managed to get 4 pages done and a bunch more pics cropped for more pages.BigGrin

Laura: boy, you sure will be stocked up on embellishments. Will it be hard for you to find replacement EA's for these two gals?

Tomorrow I think I'm going into M's as they have a c/o so I might be able to get the frame I'm after for our family photos. A gal at the crop said she got a job at our new M's starting mid Feb., stocking the store, so I guess it will be opening in a month or so.

Bye for now, take care everyoneBigGrin

Another productive day! I cut out 25 tiny heart boxes from TBBM for my Girl Guides. They are just big enough for 3 hershey kisses. I am working on scoring and folding. After that I will tape seams and stamp - thinking of using the Whoo's Your Valentine set from CTMH as they are the perfect size.
It is very quiet here!

Just back from M's. Got the frame I was after for our family photos...40% off. Got the pics in it and hung up, looks great. Changed a couple of photos in another frame also. Stopped and visited with mom, ended up taking her for a few things. Left a chicken cooking in the crockpot, it's just about done now.

Laura: the little boxes sound real cute. Please post a pic when they are finished.

Nancy: hope you're feeling better now. I don't have a clue about football either, so it's not even on in our house.

It's back to work already tomorrow...short week though as it's teacher's convention Thurs. & Fri., so no school for us.BigGrin

Take care everyone
