Hi :) I am brand new to the world of Cricut and this community :)

I am purchasing a Cricut Expression Machine on Monday and need some help to know which cartridge has a specific design on it that I really want ...

I want to be able to make postcards that are either 4" x 5" or 4.25" x 5.5" in size with the rounded corners on them ...

I had a friend cut some as a trial for me with her machine and she had the George cartridge ...
the thing is, is that the machine I am buying doesn't come with this particular cartridge.
It comes with the Plantin Schoolbook one and the Accent Essentials ...

can anyone here please tell me if either of these cartridges will be able to cut my postcards with rounded corners?

Thank you so much for your help!

I have Plantin Schoolbook and I don't think you can get the rounded edges on that one. Sentimentals is a great cartridge and has a postcard cut in there...it will even cut the postmark if I am not mistaken. There are a couple of rounded edge and one scalloped edge postcard on there Wub It has stamps that you can cut too! I love this cartridge!

I just took a look at the Sentimentals cartridge and it has some really cute things on it!
but living here in Canada it is quite pricey :( around $80

I took another look at the sheet that shows the available shapes on the Plantin schoolbook cartridge
and it has a nice rectangular "speech bubble" on it ...

I am thinking that perhaps I could use this design for my rectangles with rounded corners and then just
"cut off" the "speech" part leaving a nice rounded edge rectangle Flapper

but .... can I change the size of this rectangle to customize it to my project?
(say 4" x 5")

sorry for all the questions! so new at this and just trying to figure out some basics BigGrin

You can't change the dimensions like that on the E machine alone. You can manipulate shapes and things from your cartridges using Design Studio or Gypsys and the Cricut Craft Room once it is available to everyone.
I just cut the speech bubble you were talking about at 5 in and the rectangle part ends up being 3 1/4ish x 6 (cause the speech part is part of the measurements)
I cut it at 5 in and it ended up huge 4 1/4 x 7 1/2.

You can make your rounded rectangle using the trial version of Design Studio. (With the trial version you can cut with the cart that comes with your Cricut - in your case Plantin Schoolbook).

You would use two rectangles and 4 circles to get the correct shape and you'll be able to size it exactly as you want it.

This is what it would look like (I used Cricut CraftRoom to make it but it would look the same in DS)

I can put one together in DS and email you the .cut file if that would help. Just PM me your email address.

You can download the trial version of DS from here: http://www.cricut.com/CDS/Update.aspx
